Mindful Habits for more balance & presence

Mindfulness is not hard & scary, it is simply doing things consciously & being present rather then being absent minded in what you are doing.
It is being present when you are washing the dishes, feeling the warm water on your hands, rather then being there physically washing the dishes but your head being off on a frustrated rant about why you are always the one doing the dishes or going through all the things you still have on your to do list!
Creating simple habits so you can bring yourself into a mindful state, we teach this with our coaching clients & our essential oil members.
When you are feeling a bit stressed or overwhelmed & like you arent in control try this (its great for kids as a self-regulation tool as well!):
Bring your awareness to your 5 senses
What are ...
-5 things you can hear? -tip hear is to listen & breathe & hear the quiter sounds not just the chaotic noise that may be around you - listen for the sounds in the distance, the birds, cars on a road in the distance, some music playing somewhere
-4 things you can see - again looking further then directly in front of you, connect with nature & see the insects going about there day maybe, or noticing the detail in a painting
-3 things you can smell - long inhales to pick up scents will help calm your breath
-2 things you can feel - is the warm sun on your face, a gentle breeze on your skin, soapy water on your hands
-1 thing you can taste - this one can be harder depending on where you are & you may not notice anything in particular but calming your mind enough to be present to try.
This doesnt have to take long but also shouldnt be rushed, take the time to go through & calm your mind. When you do this you are bringing yourself back to the present moment- this all there truly is remember! - you are resetting your body & your mind, you are calming & regulating your nervous system & the big important one you are training your mind & body to learn how to come back into this state of calm & presence easier each time & eventually this will not need to be such a conscious effort.
