3 Non- Toxic Produce Washes

Its really important if you aren't buying Organic or Spray Free produce to ensure you are washing them well to remove the chemicals before you eat them, washing under the tap is just not going to cut it - pesticides are oil based and water repellent!!! Even if you are purchasing Organic or Spray Free you should still wash them to remove dirt and residue from handling & transporting of the produce (just think how many hands touch that before it gets to you????)

There are a few options when it comes to washing your produce and it just depends on your preferences and if you like to make your own or not.

So heres 3 options to wash your Fresh Produce

1. Strong Kangen water 11.5

2. Norwex Fresh Wash

3. DIY produce Wash

1. Strong Kangen Water 11.5

Strong Kangen is produced by the Enagic Kangen Machines (a drinking water filter & ioniser but has so so many uses for the 5 types of water it produces). We use this to clean our fruit and veg because it has a really strong cleaning power and cuts through oil, there for the oil based pesticides on the produce is removed along with any dirt and germs on the surface.

It is as simple as ensuring your Kangen machine has the electrolysis enhancer is in the compartment, and select the 2.5 option on your machine. Turn your tap on, the machine will produce 11.5 from the top hose & 2.5 (strong acidic) from the bottom (collect both waters!!! 2.5 has its uses too). You can either fill the sink a little with the 11.5 or you can catch it in a container that you can keep it in for a few uses. Soak the produce in the water for a few minutes - soft leafy greens on soak for a tiny bit. You can either wash before storing in the fridge or you can wash as you use - I tend to wash berries as I need them everything else I try to wash ahead of using to save time later. Let the produce mostly dry before you put it away.

You can boost this by adding lemon essential oil as well.

If you want to know more info on this machine and the 5 types of water please contact us, we can possible offer a 7 days water trial as well depending on where you are located.

2. Norwex Fresh Produce Wash

Norwex Fresh Produce Wash for washing fresh fruits and vegetables naturally with a plant-based concentrate made with biodegradable ingredients.

It effectively removes unwanted chemical residue from fertilisers, dirt and bacteria. The formula contains no phosphates, sulfates or parabens so you can feed your family without worry. Plus, it helps to extend the shelf life of your fruits and vegetables!

The instructions are on the bottle but its simple you can either spray straight on and rub it all over the produce you are washing and leave for about 30 secs and rinse off or you can make up in a bowl with water which you can keep in the fridge and reuse for a few days. Again make sure you let it dry off before storing your produce.

3. DIY Produce Wash

You can make your own really simply using water (you could even use the strong Kangen water here), Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Essential oil. The Lemon and the ACV break through the petrochemical and oil based pesticides and fertilzers on your fresh produce as well as removing dirt and germs. it help to keep your produce fresh longer.

Recipe

3/4 cup Water

1/4 - 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar

5 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Make up into a glass spray bottle to spray on produce as needed, rinse off after a few minutes. Alternatively you could use the same recipes to make up in a bowl or the sink to do a bulk amount of fruit and veg.

If you dont have great quality essential oils in your home yet please contact us to find out more or head to the essential oil info page or to purchase a starter kit.

I hope you find these useful, I know our family uses one of these 3 methods all the time with our fresh produce and we will not eat it until we have washed them properly using which ever one of these methods we feel like at the time.
